Summary (100 words or less):

The School Sanitation & Hygiene Education Symposium is working towards the implementation of a framework for action, and has confirmed a set of basic principles. These include: linking community-based water and sanitation initiatives with activities in local schools; maintaining the key to successful scaling up; the need for an advocacy and information-sharing plan for each programme; capacity building at all levels and a flexible approach that’s not lost in scaling up. Included is summaries of the keynote presentations, suggestions for the way forward and papers relating to individual countries and their challenges and solutions.
