Summary (100 words or less):

The results of the Sanitation & Hygiene Education in Latin America workshop identified a set of common problems: insufficient access to a safe water supply; inappropriate design of facilities for children; poor operation and maintenance; poor solid waste collection and drainage; lack of student training; insufficient teacher education and resource materials; and a lack of community involvement. It did recognise that teachers and school leaders place importance on school sanitation and pupils are aware of good practices. It also makes key recommendations for improving school sanitation and includes country case studies and proposed [plans to bring about change.
