Fulfilling every child’s right to water, sanitation and hygiene education remains a major challenge for policymakers, school administrators and communities. Among its many benefits, WASH in Schools reduces hygiene related disease, increases student attendance and contributes to dignity and gender equality. Despite increasing awareness of the benefits of WinS, almost half of all schools in low-income countries still lack access to water and sanitation facilities. This paper looks at how to maintain the momentum for WASH in schools, including through daily group handwashing, menstrual hygiene management, and strengthening the evidence base.
