When resources and funding are scarce it is often the monitoring and evaluation of WASH in Schools programmes that are cut – or given a low priority. However, effective monitoring and evaluation can be the key to a sustainable initiative. This progress report found that each implementing organisation or government body has its own method of evaluating a scheme’s success and few of these methodologies and tools interact and results that may help improve schemes are rarely shared. Using qualitative surveys the report identifies obstacles to integration and current trends and challenges in monitoring and evaluating programmes.
